External audiences

The external academic community is a natural extension of the university museum's core audience and for at least the past fifty years the Petrie Museum has provided study space, access to staff expertise and hands–on access to the collections for Egyptologists worldwide. Few would argue against this. But our decision to target much wider audiences, though in some respects controversial, also has precedents at UCL, and is in some respects a natural extension of the work of our immediate predecessors to open the museum to a wider public.
